Indonesia has Many Kind of Food

It’s basically based on region. Indonesia has more than 17.000 islands, so we has many kind of food that are very tasty.

William Wongso, an Indonesian culinary expert, said that there are no Indonesian food. Exactly it is regional food. Of course it would be said like that, if we see Indonesian food from inside. It would be different when we see from outside, so it called Indonesian food.

The things that I would tell you is we (Indonesia) has so many food from many regions. So, if you have a chance, try to eat others Indonesian food, beside Rendang, Bakso, Nasi Goreng, Soto, etc that already famous.

Let Me Introduce You to Javanese Food

Java is one of the largest islands in Indonesia. It has most populous population than other island. But, in Java live many ethic group, not only Javanese people but also Sundanese, Madurese, Banten people, Betawi, etc.

Javanese food is representative of Javanese people. Javanese people mostly live in three provinces in Java island. There are Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java.

Mostly Javanese food taste is sweet, especially the food from Yogyakarta and Central Java. Whereas in East Java, the food tase is more spicy and tasty.

I guess why Javanese food is mostly sweet, because in the past in Central Java and Yogyakarta had so many coconut tree. The ancient society make Javanese brown sugar from coconut water tree (it called nira), which is so sweet.

Place of Javanese Food

There are many kind of Javanese food, I will mention several of them.

Kopi Klotok

This is one of places that represents how Javanese people live and eat. From the building, the atmosphere, the food, the nature, and the people.

If you come to Yogyakarta, you should come here to experience all the things I mention before.

Just search in Google Maps Kopi Klotok and follow the maps.

You should come in early morning, around 7 AM. So, you don’t need to queue too long and get the place for enjoying your food.

We Indonesian people, eat with many side dishes in one plate, with rice and main course also on the plate.

The first picture consists of rice, sayur lodeh (many variant of vegetables cooked with coconut cream, sayur means vegetables, lodeh means the name of vegetable), tempe (you already know right), and sambal (authentic spicy side dishes from Indonesia). FYI, we have so many kind of sambal. All is so delicious.

The second picture is pisang goreng (banana fried) and wedang jahe (hot beverage consists of ginger, lemongrass, and rock sugar(?) )

This is the best wedang jahe I ever tried. You must try!

And pisang gore also! You must try!

If you like coffee, you might order kopi klotok (kopi means coffee)

Pasar Ngasem

A place with many side dishes.

First plate consists of rice, sayur daun pepaya (papaya leaves vegetable), tempe, prekedel (made from potato and fried with egg), tahu telur brongkos (this is tofu and egg. I don’t know what the meaning of brongkos, I will update later, But the color is so tempting)

Second place is sayur krecek. Consists of tempe, tofu, red bean, krecek (cowhide crackers), and coconut cream. One of famous Javanese food.

Beside is kue pancong (one of Indonesian traditional food). Made from rice flour and coconut cream, with some sugar on top after it baked. So delicious if you eat soon after it baked.

Sate Klatak

You can find many places in Yogyakarta which sell sate klatak. This is sate klatak Mbah Sukarjo.

This is recommended.

Sate klatak made from lamb meat which stabbed with an iron handle, then burned with coconut shell charcoal. This is the fist time I try sate klatak, even I offen go to Yogyakarta. Really it so good.

And the plate in left side is kronyos. This is the first time to I try kronyos. Kronyos is fried mutton fat. So crispy outside and juicy inside. The taste is so delicious. Ifo you ever try fried chicken intestines, the taste is almost the same.

Sooow, that my recommendation for Javanese food in Yogyakarta.

You can try any kind of others Indonesian food. So please explore to other places. Dont just stay in Bali AHAHA.

Ok. See yaa in the next post.

Hope you enjoy my writing.
